How to re-air a HiKOKI 2nd Gen Nailer with an Inflator

Learn how to repressurise your HiKOKI 2nd Generation Nailer with Daniel, demonstrated on a 1st fix gun (NR1890DCAJPZ). This is the same process for the whole 2nd generation nail gun range: 2nd fix straight brad nailer (NT1865DSAJXZ), 2nd fix angled brad nailer (NT1865DSAJXZ) and the Metal Connector (NR1838DKAJXZ). This process has been previously demonstrated with Nick from HiKOKI with a compressor and regulator. But with the regulator being more expensive and hard to buy, we recommend a more accessible kit consisting of an inflator and adapter, which you can buy as a kit exclusively at Multifix. See this article for the full kit list and where you can get it: https://multifixuk.com/expert_hub/how-to-re-gas-hikoki-2nd-gen-1st-fix-framing-nailer You will learn: 1. How to enter maintenance mode 2. How to remove the rear cap and access the gas valve 3. Correct re-gassing procedure and pressures, depending on the tool. 4. Tips to prevent gas leaks and extend tool life A nailer with daily use would need re-aired every 3-6 months.  📞 Any further questions? A set up guide to re-airing your HiKOKI 2nd gen nailer

This is a quick simple guide on how to re-air your HiKOKI 2nd gen nail gun. We will run through what equipment you need and where you can buy it, the step by step process, following alongside the video we created with a HiKOKI service engineer and any frequently asked questions at the bottom. Equipment You will need: A compressor – we recommend the HiKOKI cordless inflator (you will need an account to see this product). The kit sold at Multifix comes with the re-gassing adaptor – options elsewhere won’t include the adaptor. If you already have a cordless inflator, you can buy the re-gasing tool online at Multifix. A 6mm hex key Pliers (small long nosed or circlip work best) 2 batteries; 1 for the nail gun and 1 for the cordless compressor Put the nail gun into maintenance mode by turning the gun on and hold the on/off button and the nail count button for 3 seconds. The blue light will flash, and the green light should remain lit. To extract the striker blade, hold down the magazine feeder, push the nose on the edge of a workbench, fire the gun a few times until you can see the blade in the nose. Ensure the tool is pointed away from your body when putting the driver blade out. See video clip here to see this being done. Remove the battery. Using your pliers, remove the black cap and unscrew the valve bolt using the hex key supplied with the gun. Screw the re-gassing adaptor into the gun and then attach the inflator hose onto the adaptor. Set the machine to the right pressure for your tool (see the list below) and press start. The inflator will stop once 9.1 bar of pressure has been reached; when it stops inflating, disconnect the inflator and unscrew the re-gassing adaptor from the gun. Screw on the valve bolt and cap back into place. Replace the battery, turn the nail gun on and repeat step 2 to retract the striker blade. The nailer will switch out of maintenance mode and is now ready to use. If you have any issues, feel free to contact us on phone or email for help. FAQs What is re-gassing? Otherwise called re-airing, or re-pressurising, the process is to fill up the pressure canister in the back of the gun that enables the gun to fire the nail. How often do you need to re-gas? In short, it's every 100,000 nails shot. So for a 1st fixer, you’d sink on average 3,500 nails per day and would expect to re-gas your nail gun every 3 months. Learn how to see your nail count in this tutorial here. Is the bar pressure the same for all the 2nd generation nail guns? For all 2nd generation guns, the pressure is different for each one, as listed below. Recommended refill pressures Nailer Refill pressure (bar) 1st fix nail gun (NR1890DCA) 9.1 2nd fix straight 16G brad gun (NT1865DSA) 7.4 2nd fix angled 15G brad gun (NT1865DAA) 8.7 Metal Connector Nailer(NR1838DKA) 8.3 Can I use a regular compressor to re-gas my HiKOKI nail gun? Yes you can, as long as it has a capacity of >9.1 bar but we recommend the cordless tyre inflator as it is better value for money. For a regular compressor, you need a specific adaptor for each nail gun that has a regulator that ensures the gun is re-gassed to the correct bar pressure. Get in touch with us if you would like to purchase one as they are not avaliable through the portal yet. Can you put too much air in the gun? The optimum pressure is as listed above and using the adaptors suggested above will ensure this. Putting more air in the gun won't make the gun perform any better, and could cause the red light to flash. If this happens, the nail gun may need to be sent to HiKOKI for servicing. Is the re-gassing adaptor the same for other HiKOKI nail guns? For the 2nd generation guns, the adaptor with the cordless compressor is the same for both the 1st fix and 2nd fix, straight and angled. If you're using a regular compressor, then there is a different adaptor for each gun. For 1st generation or other HiKOKI tools, please contact us and we can advise you. Where can I buy the re-gassing adaptor? The re-gassing adaptor will come with the cordless inflator when purchased through Multifix, as this kit is exclusive to us; options elsewhere won’t include the adaptor. If you already have a cordless inflator, you can buy the re-gasing tool online at Multifix. Otherwise, if you have a compressor, you'll need a different tool that has a regulator and this is not on the website at the moment, so please call 0203 248 4086 and we can advise further. Do I need to turn the gun back into maintenance mode to retract the firing pin? No, the firing pin will retract without having to go into maintenance mode, as detailed in step 7. If you need further help please contact us by phone or email.
